One thing that is critical in teaching is
to gain student interest and motivated them to learn on their own. I firmly
believe that being a guide is one of the best things teachers can do for
students. We are in an age of ever changing knowledge and new information is at
everyone’s fingertips. As a teacher we need to teach our students how to
navigate this new digital world and find the knowledge they need. Connectivism
supports this way of teaching and learning and provides a foundation for
navigating the networks we are creating.
One non-negotiable thing is the ability
to provide technology to my students. They have smart phones and computers at home.
Being able to use technology and media in the classroom brings their interests
and skills with networks into their learning experiences. By letting them bring
this technology into the classroom we are letting them have freedom from just textbook
learning. As a teacher my goal is to provide a technologically advanced
classroom for students to expand their knowledge with.
Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI also think that our main goal is to teach our students how to learn on their own. Motivation, learning goals, passion, and dedication play tremendous role in this process. A good teacher would guide the students engaging them actively into the learning process.
Technology may be a powerful tool, but it should be used wisely. Using technology our students still should develop all skills that are necessary for them to become independent learners. I also think that our instructions should be supported by the appropriate technologies.

ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteI agree completely with your point about increasing the effective use of technology in today's schools. The only caution that I have is that we do so without sacrificing the role of the teacher in the process. The teacher is the critical element.

ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that we agreed with what is critical about learning (motiviating students to learn on their own and guiding them through the process) and yet we attached it to different learning theories. I see that you attached that to connectivisim and feel that allows us to navigate our what through the connections that we make and I associated that with constructivism where we construct meaning from our interaction with the environment. I believe that we both have very valid points and it is interesting that these two theories, although fundamentally different, can be used to express the same goal. GREAT POST
